Gliding low
in a cloudless sky; the hawk dips close for a second glimpse as the foraging
rock squirrel scampers; unaware. Purple
sage rustles, ever so slight, as a diamondback poses; ready to strike, and from
the long-shadowed shade of a Sandstone peak, a roadrunner targets a treacherous
stare. When at last come the yips and the dust from the dance of the terrified
little squirrel, surprise is a small soldier’s sustenance in the midst of a
ravenous world.
Ever one to
root for the underdog, I still can’t help but wonder how it is that the little
guy gets into these messes in the first place. Is he just not paying attention?
Could he use a ‘focus poke’? Or is it just me?
Cause I
could sure use one sometimes. I’ve accumulated so many literary irons in the
fire I fear my little writing kitchen is in danger of burning down—or out. Oh but how to decide which ones go to back
burners? Is there a book on that? A rule
of thumb? Writer’s ritalin, perhaps?
Better yet,
maybe Mark Twain summed it up with “Distance lends enchantment to the view,”
This
concludes another in my seemingly endless supply of occasional
insecurities. My gracious thanks to Alex Cavanaugh for founding this outstanding
platform; Insecure Writers
Support Group, where writers can
share their experiences!
And, a
cheery shout out to Chrys Fey, for inspiring an attitude of gratitude!
Today I am
grateful for:
Not having writers block (ha!)
Pastel
sunsets
Coffee in the morning
Incidentally,
I just saw Jurassic World. Leapin’
Lizards! It may be PG14, but it had me pacing the great room as if a wayward
Raptor might just crash through the window at any moment! Yeah, I think an eight year old might be a bit
too young to see this. Even King Tut;
the Boy King, had a couple of decision makers, right?
