Blue Sludge Blues

Hi, Everyone!

Any nail-biters out there? Keep the mittens handy and have a look at this Cover Reveal!

A collection of frights, from the psychological to the monstrous. These tales are a reminder of how much we have to fear: a creature lurking in the blue, sludgy depths of a rest area toilet; a friendly neighbor with a dark secret hidden in his basement; a woman with nothing more to lose hellbent on vengeance; a hike gone terribly wrong for three friends; a man cursed to clean up the bodies left behind by an inhuman force. These and other stories prowl the pages of this short story collection.

A fan of all things fantastical and frightening, Shannon Lawrence writes primarily horror and fantasy. Her stories can be found in magazines and anthologies, including Space and Time Magazine, Dark Moon Digest, and Spinetingler. Though she often misses the ocean, the majestic and rugged Rockies are a sight she could never part with. Besides, in Colorado there's always a place to hide a body or birth a monster. What more could she ask for?

  1. Hi, diedre!

Blue Sludge Blues (sung to the tune of Carl Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes") would make a great song. Blue Sludge Blues & Other Abominations is a great title for this collection of disturbing short stories and the cover art creeps me out in a very good way. Shannon Lawrence (no relation to actress Sharon Lawrence, I take it) is my kind of writer because I share her love of horror and dark fantasy. This (dead) body of work reminds me of playwright/novelist Arch Oboler. Oboler greatly influenced me as a boy with his horror series Lights Out.

In one of her recent posts Shannon explained why she chooses to write in the horror genre. "It gives me the freedom to examine humanity in a way I wouldn't without the genre. To explore the darker side of life in a safe way. And it brings me devilish delight."

Thank you very much for introducing Shannon and other authors who get to the heart of fear in their writing.

Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend diedre!

    1. Hi Shady!

Having read a lot of her work I can attest that Shannon knows her genre well. Her fans will not be disappointed with this collection, I'm sure ;-)
I do recall losing a bit of sleep after watching the 'Chicken heart' segment of Lights Out, but it didn't deter me from becoming a fan of fearsome fiction ;-)
Enjoy your week as well, my friend!

  3. Howdy, dIEDRE ~

[Link> "COUNT FLOYD" is about as scary as I can go. Heck, even Floyd sometimes gives me nightmares. ;^)

And I don't even want to think about the movie 'THE MONSTER FROM OUT OF TOWN', which played for weeks at the theatre on Main Street in Mayberry. Just the thought of that one still gives me goosebumps!!

    2. Ha!-Ha! That's a great response, SHANNON! I see I'm not the only person here who knows their 'Andy Griffith Show' episodes.

Hey, good luck with the book!
