Isn’t it ironic how the best laid plans sometimes just don’t work out? Not that I’m not usually busy enough in my workaday world, but we (the family) seem to have slipped into a veritable vortex of unfortunate events which (it more than pains me to say) render me quite unable to continue this year’s challenge with any confidence in achieving any semblance of blogging entertainment. Sorry, folks. That’s not to say I can’t or won’t still enjoy all the fantastic A to Z Challenge themes or the immensely interesting regular posts of friends and fellow bloggers! In fact, I may finally catch up on my visiting  ;-)

In the meantime, love openly, smile often, and hug your family daily, while you can.

At 25, this American singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Louisiana (plays more than 30 instruments) rocketed to country fame so fast that Billboard has dubbed him “The Leader of Country Music’s Youth Revolution”. He’s been nominated by both ACM and CMA for Best Breakthrough Artist. His debut single “Storm Warning” won USA Breakthrough Video, and BMI top 50 awards - two years in a row. Fun Fact: Not only did he co-write, sing, and co-produce the self-titled, major- label debut album, he played every instrument too!

In addition to multiple tour appearances with Taylor Swift in 2011, and Carrie Underwood (beginning in 2013), Hunter Hayes broke the record (set in 1973) for youngest solo male act to Top Hot Country Songs and in 2014, broke a Guinness World Record for the most concerts played in multiple cities in 24 hours. Of course, that was before he sang the National Anthem at Game 6 of the 2016 World Series.  Hope you like the song and lyrics as much as I do!

For a guy who was born somewhere near Houston, Texas, had upwards of three AKA names, and whose birth name was most likely Lawrence Darrow Brown, this son of humble sharecroppers sure made quite the name for himself ;-)  Beginning with Gospel, his smooth and soothing voice flawlessly flowed throughout Soul, R&B, Country (“From Where I Stand”), Pop (“The ‘In’ Crowd”), and theater musicals. Dobie Gray worked just about every music scene; associating with such mentors as Sonny Bono, Max Bear (Jethro, from the Beverly Hillbillies), and Paul and Mentor Williams -  in addition to his 2 ½ year acting stint in the Las Angeles production of “Hair”, before becoming a record producer.  Oh! And in his free time, Dobie Gray did quite a bit of songwriting as well; for the likes of Ray Charles, Johnny Mathis and Charley Pride.

But I digress. What I’m sharing today is Dobie Grays’ signature single “Drift Away”, which sold over a million copies; earning a Gold Disc by the RIAA before rekindling the hit song some thirty years later with Uncle Kracker ;-)
